Zinn~Bob Reserve (Zinfandel)
The dark blue zinfandel grape can be used to make bold red wine or "white zin." While made from the same grapes, the red and white wines are distinctively different in flavor, body, sweetness and alcohol content. Red zin has lots of jammy, fruity flavor and is high in alcohol while white zin has a light, sweet flavor and low alcohol. In our blog today, we will focus on the red variety.
Red zinfandel is known for its rich, dark purple color scheme, medium to high tannin levels, high alcohol content, and medium acidity. While the red wine tends to be medium-bodied and medium dry, it is bursting with flavors and aromas of blackberry, raspberry, spiced plum and vanilla all wrapped around various intensities of oak.
Because Zinfandel is a fruity and bold wine, it pairs perfectly with grilled meats, pasta and many vegetarian dishes. These include, but are not limited to Chili (Meat or Veggie), Lasagna, Curry Dishes and BBQ Ribs.
Speaking of Ribs (and aren't we always?) Zinfandel’s sweetness from its fruity flavors makes this red wine exceptional with Barbecue Ribs. The fruity flavors of blackberry, cherry and raspberry brings out the sweet and savory spice tones in the barbecue sauce. Meanwhile, the smoke, spice, and black pepper complement the BBQ sauce’s spiciness. The pairing works both ways as both the wine and the ribs make each other taste even more delicious.
Our Zinn~Bob Reserve is made in honor of The Man, The Myth, The Legend Bob’s Hamilton. His love and knowledge of Wine was truly magical. He’d suggest… “just sit, swirl and smell this Vintage before you taste this wine”. Salute to Bob, our dear friend! This full bodied “fruit forward” Zinfandel has been aged in Oak Barrels for 2 plus years. It’s smooth and delicious so raise a glass to Bob!
